What should i do to fix my broken psOne?

it's disc cover is broken on one side, most of my discs are unreadable, they have a ton of scratches and when i put them in the system, it goes to the first screen and goes to the 'insert ps1 format disc' .i'm pretty sure its the system because they played perfect before and i don't know what screwed it up... i am also looking for some free or close to free games for it because i was getting tired of winning the same games when it worked.
