How to get rid of cold sores?

I have cold sores and they're really painful at the moment. They're inside my mouth though, on my cheeks and behind my lip. Don't say they're canker sores or mouth ulcers because they're not. When I got the primary infection about 6 years ago (or when I was 8) I was referred to hospital, told what I had and put on about 7 different medicines it was so bad I couldn't eat or drink or talk. It's not as bad this time. I'm on the tablet form of acyclovoir but does anyone know how to speed up the healing proccess or at least ease the pain/numb my mouth?
