Is a 1987 Jetta that was full of trash, sitting for 8+ years, worth the time and money to clean?

This car has been sitting at a friends house, under a tree, but he lived like a pig. Literally packed to the windows with food wrappers, and other misc trash. He says that with replacing the fuel lines, and a little cleaning, it should be up and even p smog. It's got spiders, and who knows what crawling around in there. Is it worth trying to clean the mold, and clean the engine out for a 1987 Jetta?
